Of course, it’s best to take time to settle into your new role, embed yourself within the company and learn its ins and outs before you start thinking about a pay rise – but there are several things you can do to boost your chances of getting to that stage more quickly!

6 ways to quickly earn more money in your first full time job:
1. Work for it!
Let’s start with the obvious: To get paid, you need to do a good job. To bump up your pay grade, though, you need to do an amazing job!
This means pushing further than your checkbox of your daily duties to go above and beyond and impress your co-workers and employers. This’ll demonstrate that you are not just committed to the role you’re in, but to the success of the company.
You’ll then be more likely to be seen as a valuable asset, and therefore someone the company will want to keep on the team – and one of the ways they’ll aim to do this is by paying you more!
2. Put yourself forward for additional responsibilities
As well as working hard in your own role, once you’re settled and have a good understanding of the company and their processes, you should also put yourself forward for any additional responsibilities that pop up to emphasise your commitment to your job.
From small things like volunteering and overseeing employee birthday cards to bigger jobs like taking on someone’s work when they’re off sick, this willingness to push past the boundaries of your current skillset and support the company’s success will reflect favourably on you.
Can’t find additional responsibilities to take on? Create them! For example, if the company doesn’t currently do an employee birthday card scheme, suggest it, then offer to take charge of it.
Or, if you spot a way of making your/your colleagues’ work processes more efficient, recommend it, and become the guru of that solution.
It’s these kinds of ideas and changes that can transform workplace morale or help a business hit their key performance goals – and if you’re responsible for that, employers will be more eager to reward you with a pay rise than if you’re not.
3. Take on further training
You’ll likely be offered training opportunities as part of your new role (admin assistant jobs in Gloucester, for example, are full of them), but in order to make yourself eligible for a higher pay packet, you should also consider doing some additional training outside of work.
For example, if you work as a telephone sales executive, there’s a plethora of different training courses you can undertake. By doing things such as attending social events, getting involved in office banter (appropriately) and showing an active interest in your co-workers’ own hobbies and lives, you’ll quickly become a well-liked and appreciated member of the team.
Nothing in the work social calendar? Arrange something! A team lunch or after work drinks at your local pub or bar always goes down a treat.
The resulting boost in team morale and productivity, plus the reduction in staff turnover, will make and save the business significant money – which they can then put towards increasing your salary!
5. Have a positive attitude
When things go wrong (even in the best jobs, they do!), try to put a positive spin on it, or use your problem-solving skills to come up with an effective solution.
This can-do, proactive approach to your job will demonstrate your resilience and ability to take on whatever the world throws at you! As a result, it’ll open more doors to greater opportunities – and subsequently, better pay.

6. Ask for it!
By following the above guidance, you’ll be putting yourself in an excellent position to earn more money fast in your new job!
It’s worth bearing in mind though that line managers and other senior members of staff tend to be exceptionally busy; so even if they can see and have acknowledged that you’re working hard and are achieving great success for the company, it may take them time to act upon this (typically, although it’s not an obligation, many companies will award pay rises annually).
If you’ve been at the company for a while and have hard evidence to show that you are valuable to them and have made a positive contribution to the business, however, then it’s time to ask for a pay rise.

a note of all the positive things you achieve as and when as they happen to show your line manager), picking the right time to ask, and being confident. Sell yourself as you would have done in your initial job interview!
