5 reasons why bagging your new job should be at the top of your resolution list

New year, new you?  We all know some resolutions don’t last.  The gym membership that’s cancelled by March.  The pile of books gathering dust on your shelf.  Let’s not even talk about Dry January!

But getting yourself a new job is a resolution you can stick to this New Year.  Getting the right role, in the right place is the key to happiness, health and wealth.  Which is pretty much all your resolutions rolled into one!

Here are five reasons why prioritising your job search should be at the top of your list:

1. Taking your career to new heights:

Landing a new job means taking on new opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities. It provides a platform for professional growth and allows you to enhance your skills and expertise. It’s impossible to take on a new role without enhancing your skills and your CV.  That sounds like New Year Resolution goals, smashed!

2. Find your happy place:

Do one thing every day that makes you happy… and wouldn’t it be nice if that one thing was your job?  If you are currently unhappy or unfulfilled in your current role, finding a new one that suits your skills, interests, and values is going to turn things around. Finding the job to suit you is key to your well-being.

3. Boost your bank balance:

Surely this one is top on every resolution list? Changing jobs can lead to financial perks –  higher salary, better benefits, or bonuses. And negotiating an attractive compensation package is often easier when you’re starting a new position. Go into that interview clear on exactly what you want.

4. Learn something new:

If you spent Christmas trying to crochet/write that novel/learn to dance the tango then you’ll know that new skills don’t always come easily.  But luckily, the kind of skills you will learn in a new workplace are a bit more useful than being able to macramé a plant-pot holder. Not only will those new expertise benefit you personally, but they will also improve that CV and make you more valuable in the job market.

5. Find your balance:

If you found yourself exhausted and burnt-out over Christmas then maybe it’s time for a change.  Have a think about whether your current job offers the work-life balance you need. A new job could be a better fit, allowing you to achieve a healthier balance between your professional and personal life. And that will lead to reduced stress, increased job satisfaction, and a bump in your general well-being. Tick, tick and tick!
