What to look for so you know it’s the perfect fit

Finding your new perfect job is a little bit like starting a new relationship with that special someone. It takes a good dose of compatibility to get the vibe just right. Unfortunately there’s no winged cupid to help you fall in love with your next job, so it’s up to you to make sure you’re jumping into the right relationship!  The good news is that with a heady blend of chemistry, shared values, and mutual respect, you should find ‘the one’.

Let’s dive in and look at some of the key factors that will make sure your new job is a match made in professional heaven!

1. Passion:

Alright, we know, that sounds easier in a relationship than at work, but just give us a minute.  The job that aligns with your passions is the one that will make you happy. Look for roles that resonate with your interests and ignite your enthusiasm. When you’re passionate about what you do, the daily grind transforms into a daily pleasure!

2. Compatibility:

Just as we thrive in relationships where we share values and beliefs, you’ll flourish in a workplace with a culture that you believe in. Check out the company’s values, work environment, and team dynamics. If you like what you see, it’s likely you’ll fit like a hand in a glove.

3. Balance:

In any relationship, balance is key. It can’t be all or nothing (you thought you were coming here for job advice?  We got you covered!).  The same rules apply at work.  A job that respects your work-life balance is essential for long-term happiness and well-being. Look for roles that offer flexibility and create an environment where you can thrive both professionally and personally.

4. Communication:

If you’ve ever watched a dating show, you’ll know it’s ALL about authentic, vulnerable communication.  And let’s face it, we need that from work too!  When you’re looking for a new job, tune into how the company communicates its expectations, goals, and feedback. A workplace that values clear communication sets the stage for a positive and collaborative professional relationship. Happy days!

5. Chemistry:

Do you get the vibes? Good ones? Because you’ve got to like the people you’re working with. So in the interview keep a close eye on the team dynamics and company interactions. Being part of a supportive team is a big part of what makes work a more enjoyable place to be.

6. Reputation:

You wouldn’t go on a date without checking out their socials, so don’t accept a job without doing the same.  Find out about the organisation’s values and mission.  Look for reviews from current or former employees. Ask around – local people usually have the low down. This is where a recruiter can be your wingman!
