5 WAYS TO REFRESH YOUR LINKEDIN
OK, you’ve done it. You’ve stuffed yourself full of mince pies. You’ve embraced the Xmas jumper for another year. You’ve spent some time with Kevin McAllister and John McLane.
What’s left for the Christmas holidays other than regret, remorse and reruns?
Well, we have a little suggestion for you. Why not spend some time getting your LinkedIn profile working for ya?
Because LinkedIn is big. No, it’s seriously BIG. With over a billion users, it’s a brilliant place to establish yourself as a credible candidate. But, with over a billion users it can also be a little bit bewildering…. Where do you even start? Here!
1. Pimp up your Profile:
When a potential employer spots you and pops over to your profile for a snoop, you want it to represent who you really are. Not who you were 5 years ago. Or worse, you don’t want them to think you’re an actual ghost. So, get your pic up there (professional headshots welcome), tell us about yourself – the places you’ve been, the things you’ve seen – and your skills.
2. Build your connections:
LinkedIn has changed the way they work in ‘24. Your connections matter more and more. Your posts will only be seen by your connections, so you need to be connected to the right people. Choose your community and curate your list of links. Choose people in your industry who are interesting and interested and go from there.
3. Create some Content:
Posting matters. That’s how you’ll get seen. But the sneaky little algorithm has preferences. Post regularly (once or twice a week), post real (authenticity over polish) and post right (think about the keywords in your post so they are seen by the right people)!
4. Connect and comment:
Get involved with your community. Comment on people’s posts. The more you interact, the more likely you are to find and be found by the right people.
5. Keep Up the Good Work
Once you’re on a roll, it isn’t that hard. Back in the old days, we used to have to do this stuff face to face – late night drinks, canapes that had been sitting out too long, and the mad dash to throw your business card at as many people as you possibly could. Then the late-night tube ride home.
But LinkedIn makes it simple – we can network from literally anywhere, literally any time! And if you put in 10 minutes a day, you’ll have it nailed. You’ll have an engaged community to share issues and successes with, and you’ll be a credible candidate for any role.
And if you don’t want to go it alone, never fear! I2i is here! We’re all over the job market in the South and West. We have incredible clients who are recruiting now. So get in touch to see if we can link you in with just the right role for you!
